Zilong is from Chongqing, China, and earned his MBBS in Neurobiology from the School of Basic Medical Sciences at Peking University. At Peking University, he used in vivo optogenetics in Dr. Ming Yi’s lab to identify mouse cortical ensembles involved in memory deficit in chronic pain model. He joined the Neuroscience Graduate Program at the the Vollum Institute at Oregon Health and Science University in 2024. Later he joined the Frank lab, and is interested in investigating cannabinoid modulation of the dopaminergic pathway and how it affects motivated behavior using photopharmacology. Beyond research, he likes drawing, hiking, and pickleball.
