David was born and raised in Tyrol, Austria and studied chemistry at the University of Innsbruck, focusing on organometallic chemistry and total synthesis of natural products. After finishing his MSc he moved to Vienna to work as a lab scientist in industry, where he was involved in the development of new anticancer agents. In 2020 he enrolled in the Program of Biomedical Science at OHSU to work with James Frank on the development of photoactivatable probes for neuronal applications. Nowadays, his research interest lies at the interface of chemistry and biology. He is using chemical synthesis to develop small molecular probes, activatable by light, for optical manipulation of neuronal circuits. In his free time he likes to hike, climb and explore nature in the Pacific Northwest.
